Medical Check up for Helper

A comprehensive medical check-up is a vital part of hiring and maintaining a safe, healthy working relationship with a helper in Singapore. According to Ministry of Manpower (MOM) regulations, helpers must complete medical exams regularly to verify they are physically fit and free from health conditions that could impact their work or pose risks to the household. During these check-ups, doctors screen for infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, and other conditions that may affect a helper's ability to perform daily tasks.

These screenings serve to protect not only the helper's health but also that of the employer’s family, by reducing the risk of health-related disruptions and creating an environment where both parties feel secure.

Beyond compliance, regular medical exams support the helper’s ongoing well-being by identifying and addressing any health issues that could arise during her employment. Employers benefit from these check-ups by ensuring their helper is well enough to manage duties like household maintenance, childcare, and eldercare, creating a more stable household dynamic.

Medical Check-Up Guide

Initial Medical Examination

1. Initial Medical Examination

Upon arrival in Singapore, every helper must complete a medical examination within two weeks. This examination typically includes:

  • Blood Tests: Screening for diseases like tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis, and malaria.
  • Chest X-Ray: Checking for respiratory conditions or infections like tuberculosis.
  • General Health Assessment: Includes checks for pregnancy, physical fitness, and mental health.
Six-Monthly Medical Examination

2. Six-Monthly Medical Examination (6ME)

Helpers undergo a 6-monthly medical examination to monitor ongoing health, including:

  • Pregnancy Test: Ensures eligibility for employment under MOM guidelines.
  • Tuberculosis Screening: Required every six months due to TB’s contagious nature.

MOM notifies employers when a 6ME is due, and the helper must attend a licensed clinic for examination.
